NYLA

A JOURNAL FOR EVERY BITE.

I built Nyla because I couldn't find a food app that felt like a journal. Most of what existed was built around calorie counting, macro tracking, and numbers. That's useful, but it wasn't what I was looking for. I wanted something I could come back to and actually see what I've been eating, the way you'd flip back through a diary. Something visual, personal, and low-friction enough that I'd actually use it every day.

So I designed and built it myself.

Nyla is a personal food journal for iOS. Open the app, tap log, snap a photo, pick your meal type, add a description, save. That's the whole flow, intentionally. No calorie counts, no macros, no guilt. Just a visual record of your meals, organized by date, that you can scroll back through and actually reflect on.

The design language was just as intentional. I wanted Nyla to feel expressive and warm rather than clinical. Bold lime green, rich dark greens, photo-forward layouts, and typography with personality. I went straight into Figma and explored freely, which is rare for me on client work. This was a space to design for myself, and it shows.

Currently in TestFlight, Nyla has generated 376 sessions across 9 installs, with testers averaging over 40 sessions each — which tells me the habit loop is working even before a full public launch.
